Collection: Adinkra Symbols

Adinkra is a cotton cloth produced in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire which has traditional Akan symbols stamped upon it. Adinkra symbols have messages conveying traditional wisdom, aspects of life, or the environment. There are many symbols with distinct meanings, often linked with popular proverbs, historical events, particular attitudes or behavior related to depicted figures, or concepts uniquely related to abstract shapes. According to an Asante (Ghana) legend Adinkra was the name of a king of the Gyaman (Nana kofi Adinkra).
